How Luxury Hotels Inspire Elevated Home Design
What makes a hotel feel truly luxurious isn’t just the grand entrance or the crisp linens—it’s the way every detail is thoughtfully designed to anticipate our needs and elevate our experience. This summer, as we travel and discover new destinations, it’s hard to not be captivated—and creatively recharged—by the inspiring design of the hotels, restaurants, and spaces we encounter along the way.
Let’s explore the design lessons these dreamy escapes offer—and how to bring a touch of that magic into our own homes…
Tip #1: Design an Entrance That Makes a Statement
A grand entrance is all about setting the tone the moment someone walks through the door. To evoke the feeling of a luxurious arrival, I love layering statement lighting with a striking mirror or piece of art, a beautifully styled console, and a rug that adds warmth and texture. It should feel intentional, inviting, and–hopefully–unforgettable.
Tip #2: Bring Luxurious Layers into Your Bedroom
Nothing says hotel-inspired primary suite like layers of texture, warmth, and thoughtful details. I love incorporating an upholstered headboard in custom fabric, crisp linens, accent lighting for winding down—or reading in bed—and soft carpeting underfoot to ground the space in comfort. It’s all about creating a retreat that feels indulgent, personal, and effortlessly inviting.
Tip #3: Embrace Rich Textures
Lush textiles are essential to creating a space that feels layered, sophisticated, and unmistakably high-end. I use rich fabrics—like mohair, linen, and bouclé—to add texture and depth, while thoughtfully chosen colors and patterns evoke emotion and warmth. Whether it’s tailored drapery or a perfectly placed throw, these tactile details give a space its soul—and instantly transport us back to our favorite five-star escape.
To help my clients create luxurious, hotel-inspired retreats, I translate the feelings of their favorite escapes into thoughtful, livable design—layering rich materials, personalized details, and a sense of ease into every corner of the home.
